Who we are

Black By Force

Once a Pirate,
always
a Pirate.

Since 1937, Orlando Pirates have carried the black and white of Soweto across South Africa and the continent. Eighty-eight years of football, culture, and community. The club’s nicknames are not marketing — they are earned identities worn by every supporter.

Ezimnyama Ngenkani — Black By Force — is the name that binds them. Amabhakabhaka is the sky above the Orlando Amstel Arena on matchday. The Ghost is what an opposition sees when the Buccaneers arrive.

“Heroes are remembered,
but Legends never die.
Once and Always.”

Once and Always is not a slogan. It is the pact between the club and every supporter who has worn black and white. From Orlando East to the CAF Champions League, from the first game in 1937 to the 2025/26 domestic treble, the covenant holds.

Home of The Legends is the official designation — and the standard every Buccaneer is measured against. The legends are named on the wall of the Orlando Amstel Arena. The current squad are writing their own chapter.
